ELLE DECORATION, together with Louis Vuitton City Travel Guide, started a global design tour, following the designers' footsteps and visiting 56 cities across Asia, exploring the design, culture, fashion and craftsmanship of each city. During the trip to Taizhou, we shared a design by LYCS Architecture for the Yu Fengli Hotel, located in the ancient city of Taizhou, Linhai.
"The original building consists of a century-old courtyard, two 60-year-old brick industrial buildings and two 30-year-old warehouses. After being designed and renovated by LYCS Architecture, it has become a 'city living room' that combines the functions of a bed and breakfast space, a bookstore, and a cafe, dialoguing with the old and the new, and blending the ancient and the modern."
The entire hotel includes a century-old courtyard, two brick industrial buildings from the 1960s, and two old warehouses from the 1990s. In order to make the three buildings of different eras meet the aesthetics of young people nowadays, the designer came up with the concept of "time and space corridor". That is to say, the building retains its age and adds a lot of modern elements to it, while meeting the needs of young people in terms of space and function.
