Architecture should have the freedom to make people happy!

Cities, the great creations of mankind after massive transformation of nature, are the sign of civilization coming to maturity. In a few decades, China has gone through a century of urbanization in the West.

In 2021, China's urbanization rate will be just over 60%, and as urban density increases further, we are experiencing growing pains: tall buildings and thousands of homes, but uniformity and interest are hard to find. The problems that have accumulated and are still arising in the process of urbanization need to be solved by designers.

The passion for high-density cities has always been engraved in the DNA of LYCS Architecture. We hope that each of our design approaches to solve urban problems can be borrowed and applied by the public and iteratively updated.

The "Rooftop Track School" (Tian Tai No.2 Primary School) is surrounded by high urban density and the school site is too small for a playground, so we designed a circular building and moved the playground to the roof to let the children run happily; "Story of a Small Town" ( Hangzhou Haishu School of Future Sci-Tech City) is surrounded by a matrix of continuous, car-scale residential areas, so we designed a family-scale, dreamy and colorful "fairy tale town" to brighten up the entire dull neighborhood; "The Corner of Hangzhou" (Zhejiang Digital Publishing Headquarters) The construction volume is huge and located in the traditional city center, facing a dilemma between the old factory buildings and the old residential buildings, we erected an iconic urban portal between the West Lake and the city entrance through an urban scale morphological control strategy.

Therefore, architecture should not paint a picture, but heal the city!

Concern for the city is essentially concern for people, and Dostoevsky said, "Love the concrete, not the abstract." Replacing conjecture with observation and understanding the real needs of a vivid individual is the only way to truly solve problems. In our effort to get closer to the real people's livelihood, the four core civil building categories of office, education, housing and consumption, which drive urban productivity development, have become the most dominant design types for LYCS Architecture.

The children are the public judges of "The Wizard of Oz" ( KINCANGXinmeng International Kindergarten), voting on the future of their own campus; traditional floor plugs hindered the flexible office layout of Internet companies, so we developed a set of sky plug piping system, so that the layout of the real freedom; the founder of the Daily Interactive (personal push) even participated in the design of the curtain wall of their headquarters, and became the first inventor of the patent for the curtain wall design. The founder of Daily Interactive (個推) even participated in the design of the curtain wall of his headquarters and became the first inventor of the curtain wall design patent.

Therefore, architecture should not fall into the mould of shape first, but solve the practical problems of users!

The modernist movement a hundred years ago, when Corbusier said that architecture was a machine for living, freed architecture from the centuries-old pursuit of monumentality, and architecture soon fell to the other extreme, cold, dull, neat and tidy, and one-sided in a thousand cities. Architecture should be dynamic and enjoyable, rich in experience, and constantly renewed. Each individual in the city has a unique personality, and so does the architecture.

Therefore, architecture should not be a cold and dull gray, but to make people meet joy and surprise around the corner!

Above, is the building that LYCS Architecturewants to do.

Written on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of LYCS Architecture.
