LYCS Architecture shares the design work of Linhai Yufengli B&B, a quality B&B in a century-old pawnshop in a thousand-year-old city. The project has a floor area of nearly 4,000 square meters and was designed by LYCS Architecture from architecture, interior, furnishingto VI design.
" RUAN Hao, the founder of LYCS Architecture says: 'Stretching the time dimension, as designers, we are just one of the many creators of this house through the ages, we just continue to draw on its historical extension, a lot of the original texture, material and construction needs to be inherited.' "
"The design plan takes 'time and space corridor' as the main line of the renovation concept, linking the existing buildings on the site in three stages: late Qing Dynasty and early Republican period, after the founding of New China, and reform and opening-up era, trying to restore and strengthen the dialogue between different historical time and space in this same world, so that all kinds of residents can find a feeling that touches the heart."
"For the quadrangle with hundreds of years of history, the old was repaired and the historic courtyard was revitalized as much as possible. The building structure was not reinforced with the more frugal steel restoration. Instead, the original badly damaged wooden beams were replaced and renewed in the form of grafting with the help of a famous local ancient building restoration agency. The original roof, beams and even the old posters on the beams of the public area are basically preserved in their original form, preserving in detail the memory of the former pawnshop. The resident activity area, on the other hand, is newly created to ensure comfort. However, at the intersection of the original column base and the new terrazzo floor, the closing treatment is retained to suggest that there is a lap between the old and the new here. For the remains of two industrial buildings with 60 years of history, part of the industrial traces are retained and a modern design is added locally to produce a dramatic dialogue. For the warehouse building with nearly 20 years of history, a more substantial innovation is made based on the retention of the original frame, decorated with rusty metal panels on the outside, with a strong post-modern sense. The space of three different eras, communicating and surrounding in the interior, presents a 'space-time corridor' of three different historical voices. "
