The Demonstration Zone of Green Pearl Innovation Center Opened

The demonstration zone of the “Vertical Factory” Green Pearl Innovation Center has officially opened. Located in the heart of Zijingang Science and Technology City in Xihu District, Hangzhou, the project is surrounded by numerous listed companies and high-quality enterprises. Just 500 meters to the south lies Zhejiang University’s Zijingang Campus, contributing to the area's strong innovation and industrial atmosphere.

As industrial development converges with urbanization, the concepts of “Industry 4.0” and “Vertical Factory 3.0” are driving global manufacturing toward greater efficiency, density, and intelligence. In this context, the project underwent a thorough feasibility study in 2023 and proceeded with an urban renewal plan on its original site—transforming a traditional flat factory into a vertical, three-dimensional production facility. This shift promotes more intensive and efficient land use, and aims to establish an ecological industrial demonstration park integrating industry, academia, and research.

The park consists of two main buildings with 14 floors (73.8 meters) and six standalone buildings with 4 floors (23.2 meters). The high-rise main building is located on the site's east side, accommodating offices and research and development functions. It is adjacent to the main road and has a pedestrian plaza open to the city. Single-family buildings are concentrated on the west side of the site, with production, small-scale testing, and assembly as the main functions.

To meet the technical requirements of R&D, experimentation, testing, assembly, and production in the biomedical technology sector, the design team developed customized spatial layouts and façades for both high-rise towers and multi-story standalone buildings.

The standalone building has a first floor that is 6 meters high with a load-bearing capacity of  1T/㎡. The second floor and above have a floor height of 5.5 meters, with a load-bearing capacity of 500-800 Kg/㎡. This provides ample space for standard cleanroom equipment to accommodate various intelligent manufacturing functions. Unlike high-rise main buildings with larger single-story areas, standalone single-story buildings have an area of approximately 600 square meters. To maintain the integrity of the production space, the standalone building's core tube and freight elevator are centrally offset from one side of the building. Additionally.

The building facade has been redesigned, developed, and tested. The exhaust gas generated during the production process is purified by the filtering equipment in the core cylinder. The gas that meets the standards is transported through pipelines to the hidden opening fan on the building facade for discharge. The gas that does not meet the standard is transported to a different location for treatment along with the waste liquid after condensation treatment.

The architectural bone feel and rational industrial temperament form a landmark visual attraction at the urban interface. Silver gray aluminum frames cut The glass curtain wall into neat and homogeneous pane units. The modular window wall system with metal slant support meets the structural function and adds an orderly texture to the building.

The roof terrace of the main building's staggered retreat platform echoes the inward entrance at the bottom. Along with the metal grille on the exterior facade and the external staircase, the roof terrace is infused with vibrant colors. Lively and vivid colors jump between buildings, forming a continuous and unified facade language.

At present, the curtain wall installation for the low-rise section is nearly complete, and the high-rise tower has topped out. The project is expected to be completed in 2025, and we eagerly look forward to its full realization.
