Jiaxing College is located on Yuexiu South Road in Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province, near Southwest Lake. The library information center we designed for Jiaxing College is located in the center of the campus of Jiaxing College Phase II, with an area of 42,000 square meters. The site has a rich water and forest environment. The main design purpose of this project is how to design a library information center with smooth flow lines, a clear site strategy and energy saving concept based on the environmental conditions. The whole building is shaped like a three-pole magnet, expressing the dignified texture of modern architecture against gravity and continuing our consistent meticulous thinking in a minimalist architectural language.
The building adopts the planning layout and site strategy of a three-pole magnet. The three wings of the building form point in the direction of the historical memory point of the old campus and the main entrance lake of the new campus. At each of these endpoints are three through-height atriums allowing an interior view of the campus' three poles. The diamond-shaped façade reveals the dynamism and freedom of contemporary architecture, with a circular curved boundary that opens up and converges the flow of people and forms the entrance space into the atrium in the middle of each curved surface, clearly guiding the way public people move under the complex function.
The double-layered façade combines the luster of the aluminum and the light of the glass, which is a perfect combination of the material's micro-curved form. The straight façade, cut at the top of the triangular shape in a way that eliminates sharp angles, provides wide views and quick access to information at different heights with the help of a straight running staircase. At the same time, the circular ramp around the atrium favors a stroll through the cultural space, exploring the rich spatial and intellectual experience brought by the intelligent building.
