The project is located in Keqiao, Shaoxing. They are facing the scenic Yongjin Hengjiang River. The design of the living space is based on modernist design concepts that prioritize texture and elegance to create a peaceful ambiance. This building was designed to accommodate two generations of a family. It comprises two separate L-shaped houses that encircle a well-crafted courtyard. The courtyard offers a breathtaking view of the river, making it an ideal place for occupants to relish the beauty of nature. Guided by a modernist design style, the private residence’s clean lines and bright colors subtly blend the architecture with the natural environment.
Lightness is the key word of this architectural design. To blend the building with its surrounding nature and keep a low profile, the design involves a significant amount of floor space being placed underground, with the building connected through the underground. This results in only two floors visible above ground. The building adopts extreme horizontal lines to echo the horizontal flow of the river. At the same time, the large floor-to-ceiling glass and the linear balcony design around the building on the second floor blur the boundary between interior and exterior, maximizing the river view into the interior, filling the interior with natural light and reflecting the greenery outdoors. This design makes the building look light and provides a sense of intimacy with nature and a wonderful experience of being in it.
