Yiwu New Century Foreign Language School is the first project of overseas Chinese businessmen returning to China, and one of the typical practices of LYCS Architecturethat has been continuously focusing on and exploring the issues of high-density urban and teaching space design. Located in the main city of Yiwu, Zhejiang Province, the project is a branch of Hangzhou New Century Foreign Language School, with a total of 48 classes in the elementary school and 24 classes in the middle school. Walking into the Yiwu New Century Foreign Language School, the overall design presents a campus with a sense of intimacy, full of children's interest and desire to explore, taking the children's perspective as the starting point, introducing the "walk-around", "community" and "social" teaching environments. It is a comfortable campus with both Yiwu's local roots and an international outlook, with the children's perspective as the starting point, introducing "walk-in", "community" and "social" teaching environments to stimulate the children's passion for learning and creativity.
In the setting of teaching space, in addition to the basic public classrooms and laboratories, the first floor also has functions such as reading room, music hall, art salon, and dance room. The various functions are organically combined to form thematic spaces such as the courtyard of knowledge, the courtyard of science and technology, the courtyard of humanities and the courtyard of arts, centered on the courtyard. The International Academic Exchange Center contains office space for teachers, education and training, and a small amount of dining space, with a building height of 45 meters; the weatherproof playground can accommodate two standard basketball courts, enriching the school's sports functions. At the same time, in order to create an overall campus environment, the design integrates architecture, interior and landscape from the perspectives of spatial structure, man-made and natural objects to achieve an "immersive" teaching space experience.
The designers sought to create spaces with a warm, natural atmosphere, combining warmth. Genuine wood trim materials with yellow, white, red, and blue colors were used to make the interior design of the primary and secondary school campus more lifelike while helping to cultivate a positive mindset among students. Vibrant yellow brings sunny warmth and energy to students and increases their learning motivation. Warm white creates a calm learning atmosphere and helps students to focus. Red, a vibrant color, is used in public living areas to relieve students' study stress and enhance vitality through visual stimulation. Sporty blue injects freshness into indoor sports, allowing students to relax easily after intense studies.
