Yitiao | Catable Test Report

In 2013, LYCS Architecture RUAN Hao designed a " Catable", table for his cat "Baoqiang", and when he brought the table to Milan Design Week 2014, it was well received and discussed by cat slaves worldwide on social media. In 2015, RUAN Hao and his design team (Lai Zhenyu, Tong Chaochao and Lin Jingrui) are taking part in Milan Design Week again with the newly upgraded Catable2.0. In order to test whether the two generations of Catablemeet the needs of meowers or not, we invited five meowers to test it out.

" Catable1.0 is a table made out of whole red willow wood, the prototype is a square box with some holes hollowed out for cats to enter and exit, imitating anthill orifices inside. RUAN Hao let the legs of the table are designed to look like the posture of a cat's legs when it walks, and many tests were done to keep the table balanced before it was successful. The biggest feature of this table is the cat's perspective, into the interior of the table. When the owner sits at the table to work and play, the cat can be inside the table or playful, or snooze, and cat slaves together, and enjoy themselves. And Catable2.0 is more like a pile of building blocks, each "little Catable" has a different play path, and users can combine them into stools, coffee tables or bookshelves just like building blocks. We used 3 sets of Catable2.0, 15 cubes in total, to make up the installation you see here."
