Concept Design

The Mao Ping Village Bu She Hotel is located in the scenic area of Tonglu, Hangzhou. To allow the building to be gently placed in the natural mountain, the design uses a continuous curved roof composed of small volumes as an important element of dialogue with nature. The single buildings are enclosed with each other to form several courtyards of different scales and are connected to create a spatial sequence of winding paths. At the same time, through the wide open and closed gray space under the curved roof, a visual corridor towards the mountain is formed, establishing a dialogue between architecture and nature in multiple dimensions of form, space and sequence.

Become part of the mountain

The designers arranged the building volumes along the contour lines according to the topographic features, respecting the topography and natural resources to the greatest extent. The building form is created to blend with the mountain through staggered planes and intertwined roofs. Courtyards are set up at the intersection of the building volumes, using ramps and stairs to link the indoor and outdoor spaces, creating an interactive and interwoven spatial experience. The courtyard is divided into a wood courtyard, a stone courtyard and a bamboo courtyard, using various materials to enrich the sense of space. The spatial connectivity is enhanced by the public passageway that connects the upper and lower floors and connects the multi-functional outdoor spaces such as the hill wall, the grey space under the eaves, the outdoor terrace and the hill wall space. The hill wall is characterized by wooden balconies and timber facades, which contrast with the main concrete building to achieve a harmonious integration between the building and the natural environment.
