JWK, a leading office space operation provider in China, commissioned LYCS Architecture to renovate it`s ix-work office campus in the Jingqi Building in Hangzhou's Binjiang District. As an excellent example of operational management, ix-work provides efficient office space services to tens of thousands of employees from various companies. The purpose of the renovation was to enhance the vibrancy of the ix-work campus by providing a variety of indoor public areas to host and stimulate more public activities, thereby increasing the project's revenue.
In order to realize the purpose of the renovation, the design aims to maximize the sense of community by opening up the existing multi-storey space and creating a public area with a scale between the street and the plaza. The area is surrounded by a centered atrium and floating boxes that form a distinctive street façade. These boxes host public activities such as public meetings, leisure discussions, office services, etc., allowing employees to choose the right space to work according to their different work needs. Natural lighting is introduced through roof skylights to further create a sense of outdoor community, allowing white-collar workers to enjoy the unique experience of having a cup of coffee on the street from indoors.
To enhance the utilization of space, the designer set up a sky bridge between floors to connect the spaces on different floors into an organic whole, facilitating the flow and communication of employees. The uniquely shaped black staircase, seen from the entrance, connects the staggered spaces on each floor as a bond. In this dynamic, inspiring and innovative public environment, employees can communicate, share and collaborate more freely, thus increasing their efficiency and creating more competitive products and services.
