The interior space design of Mylines Hotel aims to redefine the concept of a hotel for young couples. Located by the West Lake in Hangzhou, the project covers a land area of 9,000 square meters with a building area of 2,200 square meters. It is an interior renovation design project for an existing building complex. The design serves to stimulate and meet the four indispensable needs of 'relaxation, romance, release and passion' so that couples can return to their own selves. Thirty-three rooms are categorized based on human's primitive desires, defining the six basic categories of "narcissism, cumulative desire, exposure, fantasy, abuse, and romance" as types of original desires. By controlling five variables: external surface, an internal interface, size, layout, and sound and light effects, the spatial environment can stimulate and guide the users' original desires and make them amplify and release themselves independently.
Narcissism is the origin of the original desire of human nature. In this space of original desire, the mirror is no longer just a functional object for dressing and changing but a necessary part of the environment. From the top surface of the entrance hallway to the wall that runs the entire depth of the space, the mirror appears directly as a type of wall.
The room type of desire accumulation refers to collecting emotions and desires in this space. The space sets up two independent entrances for couples, deliberately separating the originally integrated two. The walls, furniture, and decorations throughout the entire room from the aisle are divided in half and half evenly. The delicate white and light red color contrasts with the rough dark gray and deep blue color, guiding the contrast between hardness and softness. After experiencing the oppression of narrow corridors, the couple guests can release themselves in a series of activities formed by the stage, sofa, and bed.
The room type of exposure is an attempt to study and explore the transparency of space. It is designed to satisfy the couple's inner urge to expose themselves while ensuring the privacy of their activities, allowing them to experience the tension of the risk of voyeurism of "being seen." The rooms are designed to be located on the side of the complex to maximize the contact between the rooms and the beautiful landscape outside.
As another room theme, fantasy is achieved by abandoning the redundancy in space and focusing on the essence of the self. So the design of this space awakens the user's deep-seated fantasy by creating a pure and surreal scene as much as possible. The main area consists of a white ceiling and floor and an almost white spray painting on the wall to create the ultimate atmosphere of colorlessness. The forest in the abstract fog is hidden, creating a sense of riding on the clouds and overlooking.
Abuse is one of the most fundamental human desires, and the design of this room type triggers and amplifies the emotions brought about by similar experiences through the spatial atmosphere. The overall spatial feeling created by the rough interface, small scale and dark light gives the space the unknowable property of a secret room. In addition to the functional properties of a semi-permeable partition and the convenience of fixing various props anywhere, the real function of the interlocking metal grids is to create a sense of oppression of being bound, thus triggering a sense of helplessness in the user.
Romance is a universal experience sought by all couples, the design of the room type to create a warm environment to add fun when couples get together, making people happy while increasing the sense of intimacy between partners, thus promoting hormone secretion and give rise to the emotional trigger.
