Located in Hangzhou, the gathering place of China's e-commerce industry, the West Valley II E-Commerce Industrial Park is a headquarters complex tailored for nine leading companies in the e-commerce industry. The project covers an area of about 51.5 mu, with a total construction area of approximately 125,000 square meters. Nine buildings are planned on the ground, including four high-rise headquarters office buildings, four multi-story headquarters office buildings and one high-rise supporting service building. The main design challenge of the project is to accommodate nine independent e-commerce enterprises in a single campus.
The planning is first divided into separate blocks. Through the public space formed by two large courtyards and the sunken courtyard, a college-like campus is created, forming a centripetal sense. The buildings are staggered in height to avoid too small building spacing, forming a 60-120m view between buildings in the park. Based on a lot of empirical evidence from research on the resident enterprises, the designer decided to reserve the operation space of the upper headquarters and the lower lease for the developing e-commerce enterprises by introducing the middle garden and the staggered building levels. The staggered changes in the building façade bring corporate visibility like a single building. At the same time, by sharing a concierge entrance space for each two headquarters buildings, the site area is saved and a sense of continuity is created along the street interface of the headquarters group.
